Establishing SRI criteria in Thailand
ChangeFusion released "Establishing SRI criteria in Thailand" concept paper. We are helping the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as well as other groups interested in Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) issue such as some mutual funds and research groups to come up with some clear collaborative strategy on establishing SRI indexes and funds in Thailand. (Link to the document here)
We had been talking with various working groups on the issue and it seems that most of them are facing challenge in term of coming up with a simplified usable guideline of standard criteria based on international guideline such as GRI as well as index standards such as those of FTSE4Good and Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes. One the standard criteria comparison is done, it could be use as a working guideline for the development of indexes and funds in Thailand. The released paper is a basic write-up on the issue so we all could move to the next step.
The next step will be inviting various stakeholders from the exchange, regulator, funds and academia to discuss basic SRI criteria that could be applied in Thailand using the concept paper as a starting point of discussion. The desirable result would be a working SRI criteria in Thailand adjusted of local readiness and would allow the development of indexes as well as the SRI funds.
