Renewable energy development project : Small scale biogas system
Energy crisis in the past decade is a sign that is telling us that energy resources have been diminishing in a rapid fasion. Therefore, before the energy supply is run out, it is about time for all of us to seriously look for and identify new and cleaner sources of energy for sake of the next generation.
As the importance is realized, ChangeFusion Institute started to work with the Central group, as a part of its CSR program, to develop a renewable energ project. As a consequence, the small scale biogas project was initiated. Briefly, biogas is flamable gas derived from the fermentation of organic waste. The project took place in two schools which were Thammasat Klongluang school in Patumtani province and Potisan school in Bangkok. In the project, left over food from the cafeteria are collected in order to be used as inputs in the 16 cubic meter biogas system that was installed at each school. The produced gas is now used in the schools' cooking class, as a replacment of LPG cooking gas. Moreover, organic fertilizer which is the by product from the fermentation process can also be used in gardening activities.
The knowlege gained from implementing the project can be considered as a gateway for ChangeFusion Institute to enter renewable energy arena, and conduct further study on renewable energy. As a result, ChangeFusion Institute also worked with FAO in doing more research on renewable energy related issues.
